Program Focus

Long-Term Goals:

• Improve early childhood literacy and improve children’s ability to maintain grade level reading
  skills through eighth grade.
• Improve science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills for K-12 students and
  increase the number of children who pursue these fields in college.
• Improve management, involvement, and engagement in the public school system.


Short-Term Objectives:
1. Develop replicable, sustainable programs in early childhood literacy by:

• Improving teachers' content-based learning skills; classroom management, engagement, and
  motivation skills; and delivery of those skills to the students
• Improving students' school preparedness by developing a continuum of early education
• Developing baseline and quality assessment/monitoring processes
• Improving utilization of existing and available resources

2. Develop replicable programs in problem-based learning/classroom management, engagement and motivation including:

• Teacher training (professional development/teacher education) in problem-based learning and
  other effective instructional methodologies
• Teacher training in classroom management, engagement, and motivation for public school
  teachers
• Principal development/leadership betterment
• Teacher retention

3. Develop replicable, sustainable programs to improve science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills for K–12 students through*:

• Teacher training (professional development/teacher education reform) in problem-based
  learning and in content-based STEM learning
• Improving teachers’ classroom management, engagement, and motivation skills and delivery of
  those skills to the students
• Developing programs for involvement of girls and minorities in these fields

* Funding is limited due to the significant resources already utilized in STEM area.
